Justin – Please consider giving him a new home for the New Year!!

Justin has been in boarding way too long – he’s a great dog who deserves his forever home in 2018!!

Justin is now decompressing from being rescued from an over crowded high kill shelter.  He was so shut down and scared he would cower in his run and not want to come out.  Justin is breathing easier now, but he NEEDS an experienced GSD foster home.  Those who have had or know GSD’s know they bond to their owners and they are sensitive.  Justin is coming out of his shell more and more.  He’s ok with other dogs.  He’s shy of a year old and he’s been neutered.

While Justin is happier out of the shelter he is currently in boarding until we can place him a foster or adoptive home.  If you are interested please contact The Dog Shack.

Please send us an email to pets.katrina@gmail.com. It is best to contact us via email first as the Dog Shack is run on a volunteer basis.

“Meet Miss Piggy and Toby – Bonded Pair Looking for Forever Home”

Have you heard the saying “Two is better than One!” or “Two is more Fun than One!” – well Miss Piggy and Toby hope you agree because they are looking for that special home who will adopt them together!

Miss Piggy and Toby are very attached to each other, are a bonded pair and therefore will need to be adopted together.

Also they love being with humans who can give them attention and spend time with them, so would prefer to be in a home with someone who is home a lot and/or can take them along during daily activities.

Piggy and Toby each have their own unique personalities.

Read more about them in their Bios below.

More info on Miss Piggy and Toby:

Miss Piggy

Little Miss Piggy (“Moi?”) is so named for her entree as she entered the stage of our rescue from a high kiIll facility in the central valley.

She is quite the show-personality, and very human oriented, eager to have your attention. She is an approx 7 year old chihuahua mix, a “chi terrier”, approx 1/4 inch fur, longer than a chi, and is approx 7 lbs.

A tiny dog with a big personality, Piggy is affectionate, loyal and sweet.  She walks well with a harness and will also follow her human around the house or yard.  In a home environment, she gets along well with other animals (cats and dogs) and gentle, respectful children. She is used to cuddling up with other small dogs, and living with nonreactive, mellow large dogs.

She does not like to be lifted up suddenly or roughly, possible result of slight degeneration in vertebra, common in chi”s , also x-rayed and tested extensively by vet. Piggy does best when someone sits with her while she eats and several feedings throughout the day  of wet food, meat with vegetables  works best; she just cannot handle so much at one time. She will nibble a bit throughout the day on her own, if food is left out for her.

Her energy level is great, like a little wind-up doll and that tail just wont stop wagging when you approach. She will also relax on your lap, nap in a sunny spot, or her favorite: create her den in the covers of your bed. there is nothing quite like being greeted by the kiss of a tiny tongue as you stir in the morning with an enthusiastically  wagging tail on the other end:) She is house trained if let out regularly, esp after meals:) playpen doesn’t work too well, she is an escape artist:) large wire crate in family room works, but smaller plastic crates dont go over well with her.

She will run up to large dogs yapping as many small dogs do, and needs to be kept safe from dogs who may see her as prey; therefore, small dog experience in her new, loving forever home is great.

Little Miss Piggy will provide high entertainment for many more years to a person or family who will give her companionship and a comfy home situation.

Toby info:

Toby is a sweet, gentle, mellow fellow looking for a home that has a girlfriend around his size to play with. He likes to be cuddled and, once in a while, will let you know that he wants some loving. He likes to go on walks and is very good on leash but will let you know if he thinks your feet are too close for comfort.
If he hears you call his name he will come quickly. Toby will protect his territory by barking loudly, though he won’t bite. He likes to sleep under a blanket because he has very short hair and gets cold. Toby will do his business outside as long as he has a way out, especially early in the morning.

Ginger was saved from a high kill shelter just in time!  She’s in temp boarding and needs a new home ASAP.

She has passed all of the rigorous shelter testing and is fully vetted.  The shelter was going to kill her due to lack of space, nothing she did to deserve dying.

Now need forever home of their own. Very sweet, just want to be loved, be with their humans.

If you are interested in Ginger please send us an email to pets.katrina@gmail.com.

Tango – Adopted!

Blessedly Tango has been adopted into a lovely home.

TANGO  is a 1 year old, neutered Male Catahoula/pit bull terrier mix who is playful and full of life. He has beautiful leopard sable brindle markings, a smaller compact build, and weighs about 45lbs.

Dog Shack saved this young boy just in time from Death Row and now he is ready for a loving active home. Tango LOVES to play fetch (his favorite thing) but also likes cuddle time too. He does well on leash and is easily re-directable. A Dog Shack volunteer introduced him to another dog and he did fine. He has no issues except he seems a bit too interested in cats, so for now likely would be suited for a No Cat home. In his current foster home he will be getting daily pack walks and lots of doggie socialization. Also he will get some exposure to living with cats, so we can better determine how he does.
Tango will make a great addition to an active family who will spend time with him and also work on some basic training.

It’s hard to believe this great little guy almost lost his life at Modesto shelter and we are so thankful that we could save him to help him have the future he deserves!

This is what the shelter had to say about Tango:

Our volunteer had a chance to take him out of his kennel. She let
him play and run around; he enjoyed his toys and did not mind
sharing them. 🙂
There was another dog in the yard next to him. He ran up and was
friendly. They sniffed each other than he took off to run and
play. He is a young pup who is eager to learn and will do fine
with a patient person who can provide him structure,
specialization and consistency.

Here are videos showing Tango enjoying some outdoor play time:

Bonded female sisters need a home ASAP!

pitties w kidsPittie with boyPittie with kids White pittie White and black pittie Brown and white pittie Patch Pit Pit sis  “Meet Alaya and Jinger – 2 Bonded Sisters”

“Alaya” is a darling am bull mix who is mostly white with a cute black eye patch and “Jinger” is a red and white staffie mix.

They are both wonderful dogs – great with people, kids, all dogs of all sizes, and doing fine with the 2 cats in their foster home.
(My kids fell in love with them!!!)

They are mellow and very easy to care for, just need 2 short walks per day, and love human attention but also are fine left home together during the work day etc.
They love car rides and are easy to take anywhere dogs are allowed, like dog-friendly stores, restaurants/cafes, work etc!
They both do great at the dog park too – Alaya loves her tennis ball and enjoys  playing fetch, while Jinger prefers to hang with her human and meet some other dog owners and their dogs and mostly just watch the action. Jinger would love to be a lap dog but she is a stocky 50-60lbs and doesn’t jump so stays lower to the ground

Sassy – Adopted!

Adopted!

Beautiful Sassy had a sad start, she was shoved into an overcrowded high kill Central CA shelter with mange that nobody took care of, her days of suffering need to be OVER!  We’ve been able to get her out and put her in boarding.  She’s decompressing now, but needs a foster or forever home to continue the treatment she’s starting.  She’s good with other dogs and spayed.  Sassy is about 1 year old so she has the rest of her life to leave behind the pain and get on with the good life!!

If you are interested in adopting or fostering Sassy please contact us

MEET TACO – ADOPTED!

Taco is a 2 year old
handsome and lovable male brindle and white Am Staff mix. He has a good sturdy
build and weighs about 75lbs. He is an all-around awesome dog who does great
with kids and other dogs (cats unknown but he showed no interest in the shelter
cats).

Taco just wants to be loved and is eager to have a family of his own that will
give him lots of attention, play time, and cuddles!

He walks well on leash, a pretty mellow boy.  A ‘dude with  truck’
would suit him well to truck around with, while at the same time we think he’d
do well with a family  with yard as well.

A country spot.. great! he wont  run away.. looooves his humans!

He is somewhat trained, communicates well,  and will do just about
anything for food!

Taco was at an over-crowded high kill Socal shelter and his time was up
right before Thanksgiving! The shelter volunteers knew he was a special boy
that deserved a second chance at life, so they contacted our rescue to help at
his final hour. We could not let him die and knew we needed to save him
before the holiday or he would have NO chance! Thankfully we were able to get
him out of the shelter and transported to Norcal into temporary boarding, just
to save his life.

Now Taco needs a loving home to call his own — either an adopter of a foster
home.

See his sad face in his first photo that was taken while still at the shelter,
and now he is already looking happier in the other photos which were taken on
his first “Freedom Day”!!

We want to see him with a loving family ASAP that will give him a permanent
happy face!!

If you think you could be a good match for Taco to foster or adopt him, please
contact us ASAP.

Jasmine needs a foster home – ASAP

Jasmine was adopted, but she now needs to be re-homed – We need a foster home where she ca be the only pet, she’s not fond of sharing her affections so it would be best to place her as the only pet of the house.  Jasmine is approximately 4 years old. She’s spayed and fully vetted.  Please contact us if you are interested in fostering Jasmine until we can place her.

The Dog Shack – Foster Agreement

Former post:

Jasmine was out of time at a local shelter – she is in a foster situation  She’ is a Boxer, possibly Boston Terrier, Dutch Shepherd mix.  The shelter says I am about 2 years old.  She is approximately 35-40 pounds and spayed. She’s a great compact size and she loves other dogs and we’re told by shelter she likes kids.  She’s a very happy dog who would benefit from refresher training, we are working on sit and off, and she’s picking it up quickly, she’s food motivated so it makes it easier to train.

Please let us know if you’d like to adopt her – she’ll make a wonderful addition to your family or home.
